Any players looking to play some 4E D&D and get a chance to flex their creative muscles are invited to join me for a campaign through the land of Ralkea. New players are welcome but should contact me before playing with others for a short solo adventure to help them get acquainted with the game. Rule lawyers or anyone who is uncomfortable with creative or inventive occurrences or character decisions will probably not enjoy this game.
I will be able to run games from 3PM-8PM PST. This is an open-world game and there are currently groups playing on Sunday and Monday, but I can run different groups of players on different days as interest dictates. I am currently deployed to Iraq so in case there are night owls who are unavailable in the evenings or players on the east coast who can fit better in another time let me know. The game will be run over OpenRPG 1.8, with voice over Skype. Any players unable to use voice (or who would rather not) will be able to use text-only.
We will be using 4E game mechanics to explore the homebrew Medieval/Fantasy/Steampunk world of Ralkea. Players can expect to have their decisions and actions directly influence the world around them, and influence the fate of the continent itself!
Player characters should be developed based on 4e D&D material at level 3 using 22-point buy, though anyone who wants to develop their own unique character traits is invited to pop me a message with what you have in mind. WOTC released a character creator that can help new (or lazy :P) players create appropriate characters and it should be available at their website. Equipment and gold in your possession is dependent on class and backstory.
The world of Ralkea is currently a religiously and racially divided place. Players who choose to play as Dragonborn, or worship Bahamut or The Lord of The Eternal Flame (specific to this game) can expect it to have an influence on their standing with NPCs and their fellow players.
Players should not expect to play overtly evil characters. While there is almost infinite freedom in this game the players ARE expected to work as a party, and if they start to drift the fingers of fate will end up guiding them back to the group again :P
Multiclassing, custom classing, and other atypical character decisions are welcome, please send me what you have in mind and I will make sure that it stays balanced and fits the game world. Just because something is outside the realm of normal 4e doesn't mean it can't be balanced.
The most important homebrew rule players should keep in mind is that Ralkea is played like a real world, with real physics and rules. If a player wants their character to pull off a wagon wheel, light it on fire, and throw it like a frisbee, it all depends on their stats (Strength to remove it, dexterity to see what sort of action it takes, dungeoneering to ignite it with a torch, and dexterity to throw it). Just about ANYTHING can be done with the right skills and the right rolls, and Ralkea is the world of skill checks. If anyone needs more clarification please message me.
Players do NOT need to write up an in-depth history or backstory for their characters, but those who do put the effort forward will reap the advantages of the character development.
The gameplay syle will be determined by the players. Players fond of roleplaying may decide to try and talk to a goblin tribe living in a cave, hack and slashers will likely charge in weapons in hand for the slaughter, and problem solvers will enjoy doing things like rolling pots of flaming oil into the caves to get the job done. However the players decide to deal with a situation they will expect to be rewarded with experience, loot, and a rich story.
Any materials within the D&D 4e library are welcome to be used, and if a player would like to take a tidbit from another source all they need do is ask.
I'm best contacted by skype, yahoo, or aim at TrentTheWanderer
